Christchurch Festival of Remembrance 2016

The Band of the Royal British Legion Christchurch were proud to host the Official Festival of Remembrance Concert for Christchurch.

Throughout the evening there were points of remembrance, alongside the music. Individual sacrifices from several key battles or conflicts were recounted, and a touching tribute from a band member left many of the audience stunned. The music accompanied these, with pieces such as Keep Smiling Through, It’s a Lovely Day Tomorrow and Nearer, My God, To Thee providing points of reflection.

Other emotional performances came from soloist Stewart Gaudion, performing Myfanwy, and Peader Townsend performing a breath taking traditional Irish aer on the Fiddle. The climax of the first half featured a specially arranged – Finale from Saint-Saens Organ Symphony, for this the Royal British Legion Band was accompanied by members of Bournemouth Concert Brass.

During the second half of the performance, which featured the traditional march Death or Glory, we welcomed the Clayesmore Pipers. Accompanied by the brilliant Standard Bearers, they marched on to the tune of the 79th Farewell to Gibraltar. The pipers performed several magnificent pieces, accompanied by the band, ending with the iconic Highland Cathedral.
