Tribute to the Fallen – WW1 Centenary Event

The band decided that, to mark 100 years from the start of the First World War, a military-style Tattoo should be held on Christchurch Quay. This was supported by several brass and wind bands in the local area, including Bournemouth Concert Brass, Bournemouth Youth Marching Band and Hyde Band.

The bands performed indervidually throughout the day, along with several choirs, bands and a drama group from Highcliffe School. Other attractions, including local cadet forces and vintage verchals, also attracted the intrest of the visitors.

The day culminated in a ‘massed band’, where all four groups were playing together. They were lead on the march by Drum Major, Blake Harmer, then in several peices of music by the Christchurch Royal British Legion Band Director, Nick Jarvis. The 70 strong bands were joined by a solo bagpiper to perform the final peice ‘Highland Cathederal‘.
